Want to hire me as a production assistant or something similar?

In the days after final exams and before graduation my friends had a vision.

That vision was to bring the excitement of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time™ to life in a live action 6 minute film adaptation. Under the direction of Marcus Smith we set out to do the impossible: Wake up at 8A.M. two days in a row to film before anyone was awake to ruin our shots. With Justin “Thor” McCourry as our script and Zelda continuity supervisor, we sought to capture all aspects of this N64 game accurately. Propmaster and transportation director Evan Ash insured a very nice Master Sword and that our bike was ridden to location.

Venessa Pomery preformed many combat roles as young Link. Robert Wells will now forever be known of the Furman campus for his role as Link (and remembered to use his left hand without us yelling at him). We would also like to thank James Lanier for his role as the final boss, the “Final Exam.” Harrison Meadows used his cross country running prowess to provide a challenge for Link. Our thanks also goes out to the extras that made this possible and Furman for unknowingly lending us their campus.

Update: (7/21/08)  We have now gotten the video rough cut and will be adding N64 displays soon. This will likely take some time to integrate N64 graphics and menus. Maybe a couple of weeks to show a preview version.

This video will stand as a testament to what can be accomplished in a mere two days with us only having time to film some fight scenes once. Stay tuned here for updates on my frustrations and progress.

In the mean time some trivia about the film (I will probably add a goofs section later when I see what we did wrong):

  • Our director Marcus was extremely sick on the second day of filming
  • Director of cinematography, cameraman, and editor Chance (me) was extremely hungover during the first day of filming
  • The Furman Chapel was used as the Temple of Time
  • We really could not film at Publix
  • James (the Final Exam) was late to his role and Robert (Link) had to make a exam. The scene was filmed once.
  • We ran through a role of duct-tape
  • Yes we meant to show “all” of the Furman horse
  • FUPO (Furman Police) saw us filming knew that we were taking scenes from the game
