Red Ring of Death

I am playing Bioshock around 12:30 in the afternoon yesterday when I hear a sudden click from the 360. All is silent, all is dark, except for the terrifying red glow of the xbox ring.

In the blink of an eye I had lost about an hour’s worth of progress. However, I was more concerned that I may hove just lost the whole xbox.

The Red Ring of Death (RRoD) signifies a “General hardware Failure.” This has been a major problem for 360′s and Microsoft has responded by extending the warranty to one year for these problems. I have the newer Falcon chipset, which many had hoped would reduce the occurrence of the RRoD. It seems these newer chipsets are not immune.

I restarted the xbox and everything was fine. I have played with no trouble for a couple of hours. However, here is where there is a twist. My friend was playing a different game around the same time. After I talked about mine failing he said that the exact same thing had happened to him. His RRoD’d then came back to life.  We do not know the exact time but he has pinned it to at least within 30 minutes of my failure.

So, did anyone else RRoD around 12:30 yesterday (July 26th) afternoon?

The Dark Knight

I saw the movie with some friends on the Omnimax in Charlotte, NC at 1:00. We decided that the IMAX was awsome, but that the action sequences were hard to follow on the domed screen.

On the way back to Columbia, SC we decided to see it again at 10:15. That is right, I saw this movie in two states in the same day.

Rumor was going around that Heath Ledger might get an Oscar for his role. I was worried that he would get a pity/simpathy Oscar due to his death. However when he gets the Oscar (and he will) it will be most deserved.

His portrayal of the Joker was simply amazing. Such a disturbing character with moments of brilliant comic relief that simply made the film. Aaron Eckhart was great as Harvey Dent/Two-Face. Christian Bale was also a great Batman but needs to work on his deep Batman voice. At times he seems to be trying too hard.

If you have not seen the movie go right now. Seriously, get in the car.

So for anyone who has seen the movie, do you want to see a magic trick?

Movie Rating: 10/10
